Description
Big Mac Pizza brings all the familiar flavors of the famous burger to a delicious homemade pizza. Made with fresh pizza dough, seasoned ground beef, melted American cheese, crisp iceberg lettuce, dill pickles, and a drizzle of Thousand Island dressing, this easy recipe is perfect for family dinners and casual gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 pound prepared fresh pizza dough
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 cup small diced yellow onion, divided
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 1/2 cups shredded yellow American cheese
- 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce
- 1/3 cup hamburger sliced dill pickles, patted dry
- 1/3 cup bottled Thousand Island dressing
- 2 teaspoons sesame seeds
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F. Lightly spray a large 15 to 16-inch round pizza pan with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.
- On a clean work surface, roll or stretch the fresh pizza dough into a 14-inch circle. Transfer it to the prepared pizza pan. Use a fork to poke holes across the dough, leaving about a half-inch border around the edges.
- Brush the entire surface of the pizza dough with 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Bake the plain crust for 15 minutes. Remove it from the oven and allow it to cool slightly.
- While the dough bakes, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, 3/4 cup diced onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 5-6 minutes, breaking up the beef, until browned and no pink remains.
- Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cooked ground beef to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess grease.
- Spoon the drained ground beef evenly over the partially baked pizza crust, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Sprinkle the shredded American cheese evenly over the ground beef.
- Return the pizza to the oven and bake for another 7-11 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese has melted. Remove from the oven and transfer to a large cutting board.
- Sprinkle the shredded iceberg lettuce over the melted cheese, followed by the remaining 1/4 cup of diced onion.
- Arrange the dill pickle slices over the pizza. Drizzle the Thousand Island dressing across the top and finish with sesame seeds.
- Cut into eight slices using a pizza cutter and serve immediately.
Notes
- Storage: Leftover pizza is not recommended for storage.
- Fresh pizza dough is available at many grocery store bakery counters. Local pizzerias may also sell fresh dough balls.
- If you do not have a large round pizza pan, use a 12 x 17-inch rimmed metal sheet pan and stretch the dough to fit. The pizza will be rectangular and can be cut into squares.
- Yellow American cheese gives this pizza its classic Big Mac flavor. Mild cheddar or Colby Jack can be used as substitutes.
- Thousand Island dressing in a squeeze bottle makes drizzling easy. Alternatively, transfer the dressing to a zip-top bag and snip off one corner.
- Drain as much excess grease as possible from the cooked ground beef to prevent the pizza crust from becoming soggy.
