Description

A delightful Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole that’s both easy to prepare and delicious. Perfect for any family meal.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups shredded chicken
  • 9 ounces sliced deli-style black forest ham, cut into strips (about 9 slices)
  • 8 ounces sliced Swiss cheese (about 12 thin slices)
  • 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 6 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 1 ½ cups Panko breadcrumbs
  • 4 Tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • Chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and spray a 9×13-inch casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Spread shredded chicken evenly in the baking dish.
  3. Layer sliced ham over the chicken.
  4. Place Swiss cheese evenly over the ham.
  5. Melt 6 Tablespoons butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in Dijon mustard, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper.
  6. Sprinkle in flour and whisk until a paste forms. Gradually add milk, whisking until smooth. Simmer 4 minutes until thickened.
  7. Pour sauce over cheese layer and spread evenly.
  8. Combine Panko and softened butter, spread evenly over casserole.
  9. Bake uncovered 30–40 minutes until sauce bubbles and Panko is golden.
  10. Let sit 5 minutes before serving. Sprinkle with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure the Panko topping is golden brown for added crunch.
  • Letting the casserole sit for a few minutes before serving helps the sauce set.
