Description

A comforting homemade dumpling soup filled with tender chicken dumplings, warm broth, and fresh vegetables. Cozy, hearty, and perfect for chilly days or when you need a soothing meal made from scratch!

Ingredients

For the Dumplings:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup warm water (add more if needed)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 lb ground chicken (or turkey, halal)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 green onion, finely chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Soup:

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 large carrot, sliced thin
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 6 cups chicken broth (halal)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 cup baby spinach (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the Dumpling Dough: In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Gradually add warm water and oil, stirring until a soft dough forms. Knead for 2–3 minutes, cover, and let rest for 20 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a separate bowl, combine ground chicken, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, green onion, salt, and pepper. Mix well until combined.
  3. Assemble the Dumplings: Roll the rested dough into a thin sheet. Cut into small circles (about 3 inches wide). Place 1 tsp of filling in each circle, fold, and seal the edges tightly.
  4. Cook the Soup Base: In a large pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add onion, carrot, and garlic; sauté for 3–4 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Add Broth & Seasonings: Pour in chicken broth, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a gentle boil.
  6. Cook the Dumplings: Carefully drop dumplings into the simmering soup. Cook for 8–10 minutes until they float and the filling is cooked through.
  7. Finish the Soup: Add spinach and cook for another minute until wilted. Taste and adjust seasoning.
  8. Serve: Ladle soup into bowls, garnish with chopped green onions, and enjoy warm!

Notes

  • You can freeze extra dumplings before cooking for up to 2 months.
  • For vegetarian version, use tofu or mushrooms as filling and vegetable broth for the soup.
  • Add chili oil or sesame seeds on top for extra flavor and heat.
  • Make it heartier by adding noodles or shredded cabbage to the broth.
