Description

A rich and spicy Creamy Cajun Shrimp Soup featuring tender shrimp, garlic, and a velvety tomato-cream broth—perfect with crusty bread for a comforting Cajun meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/2 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine (optional)
  • 3 cups seafood stock or broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh chopped parsley (for garnish)
  • 2 slices crusty bread, toasted (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Melt butter and olive oil in a large soup pot over medium heat.
  2. Add onions and cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Stir in garlic and tomato paste, cooking 1 minute.
  4. Sprinkle flour and Cajun seasoning; whisk to combine.
  5. Deglaze with white wine (if using), scraping browned bits.
  6. Gradually add seafood stock, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
  7. Bring to a simmer, then stir in cream and cook 5 minutes.
  8. Add shrimp and simmer 3–4 minutes until pink and cooked through.
  9. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  10. Garnish with parsley and serve with toasted crusty bread.

Notes

  • Use coconut milk for a dairy-free version.
  • Add cayenne or hot sauce for more heat.
  • This soup also works well with crab or lobster additions.
