Description
A rich and spicy Creamy Cajun Shrimp Soup featuring tender shrimp, garlic, and a velvety tomato-cream broth—perfect with crusty bread for a comforting Cajun meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1/2 tsp Cajun seasoning
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup dry white wine (optional)
- 3 cups seafood stock or broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp fresh chopped parsley (for garnish)
- 2 slices crusty bread, toasted (for dipping)
Instructions
- Melt butter and olive oil in a large soup pot over medium heat.
- Add onions and cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
- Stir in garlic and tomato paste, cooking 1 minute.
- Sprinkle flour and Cajun seasoning; whisk to combine.
- Deglaze with white wine (if using), scraping browned bits.
- Gradually add seafood stock, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.
- Bring to a simmer, then stir in cream and cook 5 minutes.
- Add shrimp and simmer 3–4 minutes until pink and cooked through.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Garnish with parsley and serve with toasted crusty bread.
Notes
- Use coconut milk for a dairy-free version.
- Add cayenne or hot sauce for more heat.
