Description

This French Butter Cake is rich, buttery, and incredibly soft with a tender melt-in-your-mouth crumb. A simple yet elegant dessert made from pantry staples, perfect for tea time or dessert tables.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 3 eggs (room temperature)
  • 2 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar (for topping)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. Mix sugar and melted butter until light and slightly fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Fold in sour cream gently until smooth.
  7. Pour batter into prepared pan and sprinkle sugar on top.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool slightly before slicing and serving.
