Description

French Onion Beef Sloppy Joes combine savory ground beef with caramelized onions and a rich, flavorful sauce, topped with melted provolone cheese. Perfect for a hearty lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Shredded provolone cheese, for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5–7 minutes.
  2. Add sliced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until onions are translucent and softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Pour in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  4. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. While simmering, lightly toast the hamburger buns under the broiler for 1–2 minutes until golden.
  6. Spoon the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted bun and top with shredded provolone cheese.
  7. Place under the broiler for 2–3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately with the top half of the buns.

Notes

  • Do not overcook the onions; they should be soft but not burnt.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste before assembling the sandwiches.
  • Optional: serve with pickles or a side salad for extra flavor.
