Description
This Ground Beef Stroganoff is easy to make from scratch right on the stovetop or as a baked casserole. Creamy, cheesy, and packed with comforting flavor — with frozen peas for an easy vegetable boost.
Ingredients
- 1 lb halal ground beef (85% lean)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 2½ cups beef broth
- ¾ cup sour cream, near room temperature
- 1 teaspoon halal Worcestershire sauce or low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
- 8 oz egg noodles, uncooked
- Fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Measure ingredients and place sour cream near the stove.
- Season ground beef with salt and pepper. Cook and crumble over medium-high heat for 2 minutes. Add onions and cook 3 more minutes, until beef is cooked through.
- Drain excess grease. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Stir in butter until melted. Sprinkle in flour and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add beef broth in splashes, stirring constantly and scraping the bottom of the pan.
- Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, then stir in sour cream, Worcestershire, mustard, peas, and half the cheese.
- Simmer gently while boiling noodles to 1 minute less than al dente. Drain and add to the sauce.
- Transfer to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish if needed. Top with remaining cheese.
- Cover and bake for 20 minutes. Garnish with parsley and serve.
Notes
- For stovetop only: fully cook noodles, stir into sauce, top with cheese, and cover until melted.
- Dijon mustard is optional and may be replaced with yellow mustard.
- Frozen carrots, corn, or green beans can be added.
- Use halal-certified Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce.
