Description

This Ground Beef Stroganoff is easy to make from scratch right on the stovetop or as a baked casserole. Creamy, cheesy, and packed with comforting flavor — with frozen peas for an easy vegetable boost.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb halal ground beef (85% lean)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 2½ cups beef broth
  • ¾ cup sour cream, near room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon halal Worcestershire sauce or low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 8 oz egg noodles, uncooked
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Measure ingredients and place sour cream near the stove.
  2. Season ground beef with salt and pepper. Cook and crumble over medium-high heat for 2 minutes. Add onions and cook 3 more minutes, until beef is cooked through.
  3. Drain excess grease. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Stir in butter until melted. Sprinkle in flour and cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Add beef broth in splashes, stirring constantly and scraping the bottom of the pan.
  6. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, then stir in sour cream, Worcestershire, mustard, peas, and half the cheese.
  7. Simmer gently while boiling noodles to 1 minute less than al dente. Drain and add to the sauce.
  8. Transfer to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish if needed. Top with remaining cheese.
  9. Cover and bake for 20 minutes. Garnish with parsley and serve.

Notes

  • For stovetop only: fully cook noodles, stir into sauce, top with cheese, and cover until melted.
  • Dijon mustard is optional and may be replaced with yellow mustard.
  • Frozen carrots, corn, or green beans can be added.
  • Use halal-certified Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce.
