Description

A delightful recipe for heart-shaped cookies decorated with smooth royal icing, perfect for special occasions and celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons meringue powder
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 56 tablespoons water
  • Food coloring, as needed


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
  2. In a small bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until smooth.
  4. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  5. Gradually mix in dry ingredients.
  6. Roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  7. Cut into heart shapes using cookie cutters.
  8. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.
  9. Bake 8–10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  10. Cool completely on wire racks.
  11. Beat meringue powder, powdered sugar, and water until stiff peaks form.
  12. Divide icing and color as desired.
  13. Decorate cookies and allow icing to fully dry before storing.
