- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 2 cups Granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons Baking soda
- 1 teaspoon Baking powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 cup Buttermilk
- 1/2 cup Vegetable oil
- 2 Large eggs
- 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
- 1 cup Hot brewed coffee

- 1 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup Butter, softened
- 4 cups Powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup Brewed coffee
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- Garnish
- Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.
- Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Carefully stir in the hot brewed coffee until the batter is smooth (the batter will be thin).
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- To make the frosting, combine softened butter and cocoa powder. Mix until well blended.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with brewed coffee, until frosting is smooth and creamy.
- Mix in vanilla extract.
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread frosting on top.
- Add the second layer and frost the top and sides with remaining frosting.
- Garnish with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder if desired.
- Slice and enjoy!
