This Open Face Garlic Toast Sloppy Joes recipe is your next go-to for easy dinner ideas that bring serious flavor to the table. Think saucy, savory beef piled onto golden, crispy garlic toast, topped with melted cheese—perfect for a quick dinner, cozy weekend lunch, or even a party snack platter. It’s a hearty comfort-food classic made simple.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 6 slices Texas toast or thick bread
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Place the bread slices on a baking sheet. Brush each side with melted butter mixed with garlic powder.
  3. Toast the bread in the oven for 5–7 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp.
  4. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until softened and fragrant.
  6. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  7. Simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes until thickened.
  8. Spoon the meat mixture over each toasted bread slice.
  9. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
  10. Return to the oven and bake for 5–7 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Garnish with parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Toast the bread before adding the meat to prevent sogginess.
  • Keep the sloppy joe mixture thick for best results.
  • For extra flavor, mix mozzarella and sharp cheddar cheese together.
