Description
These oven-roasted garlic cabbage steaks are tender on the inside, crispy on the edges, and full of savory flavor. A simple, healthy, and budget-friendly side dish.
Ingredients
- 1 large green or red cabbage
- 3 tablespoons olive oil (or melted butter for a richer flavor)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Optional toppings: grated Parmesan cheese, red pepper flakes, or fresh parsley
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Remove any damaged outer leaves from the cabbage. Slice the cabbage into 1-inch thick “steaks,” keeping the core intact to hold the slices together.
- Place cabbage steaks on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, mix olive oil (or butter) with garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper.
- Brush the seasoning mixture evenly over the tops of the cabbage steaks.
- Roast for 25–35 minutes, depending on thickness, until edges are browned and crispy.
- Top with Parmesan cheese, parsley, or red pepper flakes if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, broil for the last 2–3 minutes.
- Red cabbage gives a deeper color, but green cabbage caramelizes more easily.
