Description

This cozy Chicken Dumpling Soup is a rich, creamy comfort food classic filled with tender chicken, vegetables, and fluffy homemade dumplings. Perfect for cold days, it’s hearty, warming, and incredibly satisfying.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 ½ tsp salt (divided)
  • ¾ tsp black pepper (divided)
  • 1 tbsp avocado oil
  • 4 tbsp salted butter
  • 1 small sweet onion, diced
  • 3 medium carrots, sliced
  • 3 celery ribs, diced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • â…“ cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tbsp chicken bouillon paste
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp dried rosemary
  • ½ tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp dried tarragon
  • ½ tsp dried sage
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup frozen peas

Dumplings:

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 4 tbsp salted butter, melted
  • ¼ cup sour cream


Instructions

  1. Season chicken with salt and pepper. Sear in oil until golden on both sides, then remove and cube.
  2. Melt butter in pot. Add onion, carrots, and celery and cook until softened. Add garlic and cook briefly.
  3. Stir in flour, then gradually add broth and water until smooth and thickened.
  4. Add bouillon, herbs, chicken, salt, and pepper. Simmer until chicken is fully cooked.
  5. Mix dumpling ingredients into a thick dough.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough into simmering soup. Cover and cook until dumplings are fluffy and cooked through.
  7. Stir in milk and peas. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Dumplings should be fully submerged while cooking.
  • Do not overmix dumpling dough for best fluffiness.
