These Crock Pot French Onion Meatballs are rich, savory, and slow-cooked to perfection with caramelized onion flavor, melted cheese, and juicy meatballs. Perfect as a hearty main dish or party appetizer served over rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles.
Ingredients
- 2 medium yellow onions, sliced
- 26 oz frozen beef meatballs (halal-certified)
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth (halal)
- 1 packet brown gravy mix (halal-certified)
- 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 1/2 cups grated gruyere cheese
Instructions
- Place sliced onions at the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker.
- Add frozen meatballs on top of the onions.
- In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, brown gravy mix, garlic, black pepper, thyme, and vinegar.
- Pour mixture over meatballs in the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on HIGH for 2.5–3.5 hours or LOW for 5–6 hours.
- Mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl, then stir into the slow cooker to thicken sauce.
- Top with gruyere cheese, cover, and cook 10 more minutes until melted.
- Serve hot over rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes.
Notes
- Use a programmable slow cooker to prevent overcooking.
- If sauce is too thin, add extra cornstarch slurry (1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water).
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
