Description

These Crock Pot French Onion Meatballs are rich, savory, and slow-cooked to perfection with caramelized onion flavor, melted cheese, and juicy meatballs. Perfect as a hearty main dish or party appetizer served over rice, mashed potatoes, or noodles.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium yellow onions, sliced
  • 26 oz frozen beef meatballs (halal-certified)
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth (halal)
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix (halal-certified)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 cups grated gruyere cheese

Instructions

  1. Place sliced onions at the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker.
  2. Add frozen meatballs on top of the onions.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together beef broth, brown gravy mix, garlic, black pepper, thyme, and vinegar.
  4. Pour mixture over meatballs in the slow cooker.
  5. Cover and cook on HIGH for 2.5–3.5 hours or LOW for 5–6 hours.
  6. Mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl, then stir into the slow cooker to thicken sauce.
  7. Top with gruyere cheese, cover, and cook 10 more minutes until melted.
  8. Serve hot over rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • Use a programmable slow cooker to prevent overcooking.
  • If sauce is too thin, add extra cornstarch slurry (1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp water).
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze for up to 3 months and reheat after thawing overnight.
  • Ensure meatballs, broth, and gravy mix are halal-certified.
