Description

This vegan Philly cheesesteak is so easy to make and the result is a hearty and delicious sandwich! The blend of vegan meat, caramelized onions, green peppers, and vegan cheese comes together for the perfect vegan cheesesteak.

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, cut into strips
  • 1.5 green bell peppers, cut into strips
  • 1.5 cups vegan ground beef
  • 5 slices vegan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 2 teaspoons Lawry’s Seasoning Salt (or 1 teaspoon regular salt)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 hoagie rolls, cut in half

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Heat a little oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté the onion strips until translucent and browned, about 5-10 minutes.
  3. Add the green bell peppers and cook until they begin to soften.
  4. Add the vegan ground beef, oregano, seasoning salt, and pepper. Mix well and sauté until the vegan beef is browned and cooked through.
  5. Place the sliced hoagie rolls on a baking sheet with one slice of vegan cheese each. Bake until the inside of the bread is crispy to the touch.
  6. Meanwhile, place the remaining vegan cheese slices on top of the meat and vegetable mixture in the pan. Cover and cook for 2-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
  7. Use a spatula to mix the melted cheese throughout the Philly cheesesteak filling.
  8. Remove the hoagie rolls from the oven and spoon half of the filling onto each roll.
  9. Serve immediately with chips, fries, or a side salad.

Notes

  • If you don’t want to use vegan beef crumbles, substitute an equal amount of mushrooms instead.
  • You can also make this recipe without onions and use two sliced green onions instead.
  • This recipe does not store well as a fully assembled sandwich, but you can make the filling ahead of time and store it in the fridge. Reheat the filling and toast the buns when ready to serve.
